2nd meeting of cogs and a regatta
On August, 8th five German cogs depart from Wismar to the 17th Hanse Sail and will arrive at Rostock in the late afternoon. The former patrol boat “Elbe I” of the water police at Hamburg is going to accompany the first participants of the Sail, all of them re-buildings of medieval merchant ships, for example „Ubena v. Bremen“, „Roland v. Bremen“, the „Kieler Hansekogge“, die hulk „Lisa v. Lübeck“ and the biggest cog “Wissemara”.
After the great success of the first meeting in the last year, the second meeting in 2007 will take place at the Hanseatic city of Wismar. On August, 3rd a maritime folk festival will already occur at the Old Harbour with vivid market life and cultural events. Runs to Wismar’s bay and the first cog race in August, 5th are planned. On Sunday, at the end of the festival a tribute concert will take place from 5.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at St. Nicolai’s church with performances of the Shantychoir Blenke, „De Klönköpp“ from Schwerin and the organist Thomas Illig.
German navy together with “Hamburg” and “Hermelin”
While the German navy will present one of its most advanced and biggest fighting ships the frigate “Hamburg” at the Hanse Sail in Warnemünde, the speed boat “Hermelin” will moor at the city harbour.
The navy will also invite guests to visit the navy base at Hohe Düne from Thursday to Saturday. So the speed boat “Wiesel”, the oil recovery vessel “Bottsand” and the tender “Elbe” can be visited. The training sailing vessel “Cuauhtémoc“ from Mexico as well as the Polish „Iskra“ will also invite guests to go on board temporarily.
On Saturday (August, 11th) helmet divers of the navy base will present a special attraction for children by lifting up treasures off the Warnow’s ground. Soldiers of the navy will show rescue operations in cooperation with the “Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger“ accompanied with SAR helicopters of the “Sea King” type and divers of the navy base. The antiaircraft missile group 21 from Sanitz presents its weapon system “Patriot”. The “Hamburg” and the “Hermelin” invite to an Open Ship.
A shuttle traffic with ships running from “Neuer Strom” or busses departing from the campground Markgrafenheide will be arranged.

Hanse Sail at Rostock’s “Geodatenportal”
Visitors of the Hanse Sail can already plan their stay at Rostock by the internet. With only a few mouse clicks berths of all sailing ships ca be found on a digital map of Rostock or on an air photograph. Furthermore at http://geoportal.rostock.de they will find the position of stages, free parking and a lot of information around this maritime event at Rostock.
This pool of Sail’s information is part of Rostock’s geographical dates portal “GeoPort.HRO”. About 27.000 clicks per month show the success of the portal’s concept which scales other sources of information. Dates of different providers are connected to offer information as fast as possible.
Five ships from four different countries offer sailing trips
Five of the most beautiful tall and traditional ships from four different countries invite guests in of the 17th Hanse Sail to sail with them at a day trip (10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.) and at evening trips (7.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.). So the three-mast top gaff schooner “Eendracht” (NL) offers sailing trips on Thursday and Friday (August, 9th and 10th). The Polish jewel on the sea the full rigged ship “Dar Mlodziezy” still offers day trips on August, 9th and special firework trips on Saturday August 11th. The “Linden” a very gorgeous three-mast schooner from the Finish Aaland Islands invites guests to go on board on Thursday August, 9th for day and evening trips as well as to the “moonlight trip” on Friday August, 10th and Sunday August 12th.
A brig as beautiful as a piano concert is the “Fryderyk Chopin”. Maybe this is a reason for persons to enjoy a trip on board of this ship from Szczecin on Friday and on Sunday (August, 10th and 12th). The old ship “Ingo” from Sweden was built in 1922 and is known at professionals as a fast moving three-mast schooner. Free seats are available on Friday and Sunday (August, 10th and 12th). Receipts of ship chartering and of single bookings are taken for the maintenance of traditional ships.
