„Lord Nelson“ surprisingly participates in the Hanse Sail
The three-mast bark “Lord Nelson” from Great Briton with a length of 55 metres surprisingly signed up for its participation in the Hanse Sail 2007.
After leaving Szczecin, the vessel will arrive at the bonny ships’ celebration at Rostock.

Another new participant of the Hanse Sail is the “Estelle”, a three-mast gaff schooner from Turku, which already visited Rostock during the meeting of the G8. With a length of 53 metres, a breadth of 7 metres and a sail of 645 square metres this Finnish ship belongs to the tall ships at the meeting.

The “Estelle” has been built in 1922 and was reconstructed ten years ago. It is part of an organisation for the protection of the environment which supports fair trade in the Third World. At exhibitions and events on board of the ship and at the day trips (6 hours and 20 persons: 2.500 Euros) visitors will get some more information about the aim of the organisation.

Moment of silence
For the third time the “Church’s Night” will take place in the context of the Hanse Sail 2007. Seven churches which belong to Rostock’s precious historic heritage invite inhabitants and guests to experience moments of silence and reflection during the adventurous days of the Hanse Sail from 9 p.m.

Little concerts will take place at six of the churches. At St. Marien as well as at the Christus-Kirche (Häktweg 4-6) people can listen to organs. At the Michaeliskirche (Altbettelmönchstraße) a young rock band is going to play a concert, while a women’s choir sings at St. Nikolai.

St. Petri offers its guests a program called “Petri goes Dylan” at the Alter Markt and presents music of the great American musician Bob Dylan next to recited texts with a German translation.

The church of Warnemünde offers a traditional service for sailors on Sunday August, 12th from 10 a.m. The Shanty Choir “De Klaashahns” will sing and the service will be ministered by sailor’s deacon Folkert Janssen.

Walk at the promenade of Warnemünde
Also in 2007 the promenade is the event area of the Hanse Sail at Warnemünde. The stage at the lighthouse is a meeting point for everyone who likes to dance or listen to music. Visitors of the Hanse Sail will attend at a various program with about 60 participating acts.

One of those are Heide Mundo und Rollo from Warnemünde who present maritime hits and the dance studio “Neptun”. The “Schlagermafia”, the funny orchestra from Magdeburg “Sax’n Anhalt” and party band “Total geil” invite the audience at the lighthouse to sing or dance together. Karin Grewe, a singer with a great voice from Waren-Müritz, performs her songs with a band on Thursday.

Hanseatic air at Rostock’s first Sail Ball
The first Ball at the occasion of the Hanse Sail takes place on Friday August, 10th at the traditional Steigenberger Hotel Sonne. Inhabitants and guests of Rostock as well as maritime associations are invited to join the event from 8 p.m. Regina Rösler und Horst Marx moderate the evening with talks about navigation.

“Die Kavaliere” from Berlin invite the guests to dance and a buffet offers local specialities. Proceeds of a tombola will support traditional navigation in the Baltic area, especially the youth work on board of the ships. Captain Marek Marcek and chief mate Aleksander Radlowski of the Polish full rigged ship “Dar Mlodziezy“ will be the guests of honour.

Ticket to 65,00 Euros (incl. buffet and a Welcome-Drink) are available at the Steigenberger Hotel Sonne and at the Pressezentrum Rostocker Hof.
