For the first time the HIORTEN-Regatta will be controlled by Germans and Sweds
The HIORTEN-Regatta from Karlskrona to Rostock became a classic since. Next Sunday (August 6th) at 4.00 pm it will start for the 10th time in front of the Swedish south coast. However, the controlling of the race is new this year. Dr. Dieter Goldschmidt from the Sail Club Warnemünde will supervise the regatta together with the president of the Swedish traditional sailing association, Per Inge Lindquist. Both will shoot the starting signal on board of the German Navy ship SEEADLER for the nearly 30 participating traditional sailing vessels and yachts on Sunday.

“In the case of normal weather conditions all ships should achieve the aim in the course of Tuesday”, so Goldschmidt, who is enthused yacht sailer and had been president of the sailing association Mecklenburg-West-Pomerania for many years. The aim is situated near the roads buoy 1 off Warnemünde. The starting is effected in three groups. In the last year simply 18 ships started because of the bad weather. Only three of them reached the aim. The winner was the Russian YANA from group C (yachts).

Meeting point light house
Like already in 1991 a promenade with handcrafts, souvenirs and culinary treats will arise from the light house to the spa hotel. There will be a beer garden at the foot of the light house. On the stage at the light house different artists like Line-Dancers or singers and instrumental groups, for instance “Irish Coffee”, the “Breitling Stompers” and the Beatles tribute band “Re Cartney” will perform on all days of the Sail.

As a result of the increasing number of visitors from year to year a solution was found that offers more elbow-room to the guests of the Hanse Sail. Along the “Alter Strom” (old stream) in Warnemünde snacks and drinks are offered particularly, wheras there will be enough place at the “Neuer Strom” (new stream) to look at the passing ships. The big wheel will stand again on the neighbouring premises of Scandlines. The Sailor’s fireworks will be a high light of the event round dance in Warnemünde on Saturday (August 12th) at 10.30 pm.

The flying Netherlands remain true to Rostock
In 2006 they keep again their nose – better - their bow forward. The Netherlands! 38 ships will come to the 16th Hanse Sail. So the Netherlands will cross the waters of Rostock with the biggest foreign fleet from August 10th to 13th and so they do since the first Hanse Sail in 1991. The eleven biggest from the country of tulips, canels and big sailors bring more than 500 m2 sail surface to the mast in each case. The biggest windjammer of the guest fleet of the North Sea is the ARTEMIS with 1050 m2 sail surface. Most of the Dutch traditional sailing vessels that will come to Rostock in 2006 have already been present at nearly every windjammer meeting in Rostock.

Segelstadion: Near to the wind and close to the audience
The „Segelstadion“ in the city harbour is an attraction of the Hanse Sail that Rostock is predominantly due to geographically favourable realities of the river Warnow and its bay between the “Holzhalbinsel” (wood peninsula) and the classy updated storehouses. After the felicitous premiere in the last year there will be a sport and show program in the water arena in 2006, too, thanks to the young people of the water sport school Rostock around Dirk Jahnke and the office of the Hanse Sail of the Tourism Centre Rostock & Warnemünde.

Races of “Optimists”, the smallest boat category for kids, will aready take place on Thursday morning (August 10th): 20 girls and boys from Rostock will start in 20 boats. The internationally successful water jumpers of the Hanseatic City will set a high light of the profgram since 6.30 pm with show jumps off board of the cog LISA v. LÜBECK. On Friday (August 11th) a former famous player of Hansa and an ex- world class sailer will sit in a “Hors” boat at a time in the framework of the celebrity regatta. Rainer Jarohs, Juri Schlünz and Hilmar Weiland will keep the honesty of the footballers high. Ex-world champion Jörn Borowski also promised to compete for the weather-beaten sailers. Ashore an autograph hour with players of the second German Football League and a fashion show of the current Hansa collection are planed.

At the weekend (August 12th/13th) 30 young sportsmen of all five North German federal states will take part in the “Optis” race to obtain the title: “NDR-Segeltalent” (sailing talent). Thus the North German broadcasting supports the advancement of the procreation on a grand scale. On Sunday the winners of all categories will start for the race of the “Hanse-Sail-cup” that was donated by OstseeSparkasse Rostock and the office of the Hanse Sail in the “Segelstadion”. The finale in the “Segelstadion” will be a beauty contest where “Miss Hanse Sail 2006” will be voted.

9th Maritime showcase contest in Rostock
The City-Kreis Rostock e.V. and the office of the Hanse Sail has appealed again all shops in the city for taking part in the showcase contest since August 7th on the occasion of the 16th Hanse Sail. So far 53 companies have applied for the campaign. The respective products should be presented in a maritime way in order to increase the lust for loafing and looking. Hairdresser Dybaré in the “Jakobipassage” takes part for the first time this year. The shop hopes that the hair care products which are lovingly integrated in sand and flew will go down well at the jury and the visitors.

All Rostockers and guests of the city can contest the election of the most beautiful showcase on the occasion of the Hanse Sail 2006 until August 11th. The attendance coupons are available in the daily newspaper or in the “Hanse Sail Magazin aktuell” and are to be send to City-Kreis Rostock. Three shopping gift coupons to the total amount of 120 Euro are raffled. The most beautiful maritime decorated showcases will be awarded on the Hanse-Sail-stage in the city harbour on Saturday (August 12th) at 2.00 pm.

Sailing pictures on canvas
Sailing pictures of Erich Hellmuth will be exhibited and sold in the Baltic Point at the passenger quay in Warnemünde from August 9th to 13th. Scenes on water in wind and waves, but also on yachts in regatta events are shown from 10.00 am to 06.00 pm. His works are so paricular as he uses special material. The artist and hobby sailer from Neusiedler See utilises old sails as basis and partly incorporates sail seams, pleats and fittings into the works. Some of his works will be awarded to the winners of the regattas of the 16th Hanse Sail.
