Cooperation of German Sail-harbours
On Sail-Friday there will be a visit from Hamburg. The boss of the ‚HAFENGEBURTSTAG Hamburg’ Sonja Tegtmeyer and her employee Kirsten Brandt will come to Rostock together with the port captain of Hamburg’s port, Jörg Pollmann. ‚Yes, we are curious how Rostock organizes the windjammer meeting’. But there is more behind the visit. Rostock and Hamburg want to promote together with the ‚Kieler Woche’, the ‚Sail Bremerhaven’ and with the Sail-organizers in Wilhemshaven the ’maritime festivals on Germany’s coastline’. The project, which was presented to the public at the ‚boot’ Düsseldorf is open for the the smaller harbour festivals on North- and Baltic Sea, as well as in inland.

The region supports the 21. Hanse Sail Rostock
From voluntary helpers to sponsoring, the Hanse Sail Rostock based on a broad basis of help. From the beginning, ROSTOCKER is the beer of the Hanse Sail and supplies not only free beer for the Captain’s Reception. The sparkling water comes, well-cooled, from the wholesaler Quandt-Schön, which guaranteed the whole drink-logistic for the participants of the market. The ‚Ostseesparkasse’ with the ‚Ostdeutschen Sparkassenverbund’, Eurawasser, Coca Cola, Scandlines or Rostock’s house-building company WIRO belong to the reliable partners of the event, for years. As well as the group DMR / Kloska, which took over a ship sponsorship for the BOUNTY (USA) and bears the costs for the towing of the ship into Rostock’s city harbour and for the power supply of the guest. Many companies of the region must be named here. Hanse Sail-head Holger Bellgardt emphazises: ‚Without this ghost and all the other good ghosts the Sail would not be thinkable.’ Thanks to all partners and helpers, who always support us and who could be contacted all the time.

Within its 14-days ‚Scandinavia-journey’ from London to Stockholm, it comes with its 680 guests to Warnemünde as well. With its 18 metres, the ship is not that large, but very exquisite. Especially the spa-area shows the luxury of this cruise liner. The day before, the guests docked in Amsterdam to continue afterwards the travel to Copenhagen. The Saturday offers more space fort he guests on board of the cruise liner, because of the arrival of the COSTA ATLANTICA, 2600 passengers may enjoy the maritime impression of this big event. The planned 162 arrivals of in total 36 differnt ships in year 2011 show an enormously increase. As a comparison: last year 114 cruise liners called the port Warnemünde.

ARTEMIS is pleased about the good care at the 21. Hanse Sail
Ali Schmidt, a young captain drives the ARTEMIS safely from harbour to harbour for years. His six man crew at home from April to October on the North- and Baltic Sea. They are regularly visiting maritime events and offer cruises for joint-sailers. Yesterday they arrived Rostock. They often were a guest ship at the Hanse Sail. That they arrived punctual, was no matter of course, they had big problems with the west wind. He and his ARTEMIS are on second position of a five-packet- a challenging position. It is crowded in the city harbour… ‚ but the care is excellent, as every year.

Parliament and constitution belong to Norway’s pioneering achievements
Norway has one of the oldest parliaments, the ‚Storting’, the big convention – and the oldest constitution of Europe. Both are dated on 17th May 1814, in the run-up of the Congress of Vienna. Although, Norway was Swedish ninety years after it,althoug the national holiday is on 17th May. One of the most famous Norwegians after the Second World War became Thor Heyerdahl. Nearly 65 ago, he undetook a 97 days nonstop journey over the Pacific, on a raft made of bals, the well-known ‚Kon-Tiki’. With his expedition he wanted to prove the relationship between the cultures of Polynesia and the Incas.

The Weather
Continous rain annoyed the Sail guests yesterday. Today they are worrying about the overcast sky with a higher precipitation risk. Shall it really continue to rain even on the 2. Sail-day. However, serious meteorologists said that that the sun will be shine and we can expect temperatures above 20°C. We certainly hope so!
